Sadako and the Cranes

This year, From Hiroshima to Hope was proud to partner with local choreographer Gabrielle Nomura Gainor and Trial & Error Productions, a film company. Gabrielle approached us in wanting to make a dance that could honor victims of war and violence—including Sadako Sasaki. Sadako was a young girl who folded 1,000 origami cranes and wished for peace before passing away due to radiation from the Hiroshima bombing. In Gabrielle’s choreography, the spirit of Sadako and her cranes come alive for a new generation. In the end, we even see the spirit of Sadako place a lantern into the water, just as we will soon do together at Green Lake. Please enjoy the entire 6-minute film online at https://youtu.be/es3FmLxcCsA and in-person at our event on Aug. 6.
